PNP Constructions: Honoured Finalists at the 2024 HIA National Conference & Awards

Let’s rewind to an incredible four days in May! Our Executive and Management team recently attended the prestigious 2024 Housing Industry Association (HIA) National Conference and Awards in Cairns. Set against the warm, welcoming backdrop of Queensland’s coast, this event brought together the best minds and projects in the housing industry, making it one of the most significant industry events of the year.

Our team didn’t just enjoy the beautiful surroundings and top-tier networking; we proudly stood as finalists in one of the nation’s most competitive and respected awards programs. This recognition, particularly for our NDIS Bathroom Project in the Bathroom Design category, was a huge moment for PNP Constructions and the broader disability construction community.

National Recognition for Excellence in Disability Construction

PNP Constructions was thrilled to be finalists in the HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards, one of the highest accolades in our industry, placing us in the top 10 within Australia for Bathroom Design. Each year, regional winners from across Australia compete at the national level, representing the best of the best in residential construction.

Being named finalists in the Bathroom Design category, following our Bathroom Design of the Year win in the Hunter Region, was a testament to our innovation and leadership in inclusive, accessible design. The HIA-CSR Awards are fiercely competitive, so to be shortlisted among national leaders is a massive achievement for our team.

Our NDIS Bathroom Project not only adheres to the stringent requirements of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) but also goes above and beyond Australian standards for bathroom design. It breaks barriers by integrating high-quality, functional, and stylish design that prioritises accessibility for all users. This recognition at a national level highlights the growing importance of disability-inclusive construction and our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in this space.

Overcoming Unique Challenges in Renovation Design

While many designs at the awards are from new builds with greater flexibility, our work involved the renovation of an existing property. This posed a unique challenge, as we had to work within the limitations of the original structure while ensuring our design adhered to both Australian Standards and NDIS requirements. Achieving this delicate balance showcased our team’s expertise, adaptability, and creativity.

By aligning with these specialised accessibility standards, our bathroom design not only serves immediate needs but also sets new benchmarks for inclusivity in residential construction. The acknowledgment from the HIA reinforces the importance of our mission and motivates us to continue delivering excellence in the sector of disability construction.

A Platform for Industry Leadership and Innovation

The national recognition from the HIA Awards places PNP Constructions among the leading voices in the industry. Our nomination highlights how crucial it is to integrate inclusive design into mainstream construction. Disability-inclusive projects like ours are paving the way for a more accessible future, proving that functional designs can also be visually appealing and innovative.

We are incredibly honoured to have showcased our work on such a prestigious platform. This recognition represents more than an award; it is a validation of the importance of inclusive construction on a national stage, where the highest standards of design are evaluated.

Insightful Workshops and Emerging Industry Trends

The 2024 HIA National Conference was more than just an awards ceremony. It featured a wide array of workshops and discussions, offering a comprehensive look at the latest trends and challenges shaping the future of housing.

Our team took part in sessions on housing affordability, construction challenges, business operations, and emerging design trends. These workshops provided a forward-thinking perspective that will help us navigate the evolving landscape of the construction industry.

One particularly inspiring speaker was Lucinda Hartley, an expert in reimagining future housing. Her visionary ideas challenged conventional design and have already influenced how we think about our upcoming projects. Adam Ferrier, a branding specialist, also made a big impact with his talk on the importance of branding and how it shapes market perception. His insights into building a powerful brand presence are directly applicable to how PNP Constructions will continue to position itself as a leader in the field.

Building Connections and Collaboration

While professional development was front and centre, the conference also offered some incredible opportunities for networking and building relationships with industry peers. Sharing insights, discussing trends, and exploring potential collaborations with other leading construction professionals were some of the highlights of our time in Cairns.

Unique bonding experiences like the cooking class with MasterChef Finalist Sarah Todd not only offered a break from formal proceedings but allowed us to connect with other attendees in a creative and relaxed setting. These interactions are essential for fostering collaboration, sparking new ideas, and driving innovation in the construction industry.

Laughter and Fun: A Unique Awards Night Experience

The HIA National Awards Night was a prestigious affair, but it wasn’t without its light-hearted moments. One of the standout moments came courtesy of radio stars Will & Woody from KISSFM Radio BiH, who unexpectedly stole the show with a quirky auction involving a naked shower photo of Will. This memorable moment, which raised funds for charity, added a fun and unique twist to the evening—and we were thrilled to take home this one-of-a-kind memento, knowing that it supported a good cause.

Continuing Our Commitment to Excellence

Our time at the HIA National Conference and Awards was a true milestone for PNP Constructions. The recognition of our NDIS Bathroom Project and our role as finalists in such a prestigious category reaffirm our commitment to excellence in inclusive design. We are immensely proud of our team, whose dedication and innovation continue to drive our success.

As we look ahead, we are more motivated than ever to continue pushing boundaries and setting new standards for disability construction. The insights gained, connections made, and recognition received at the HIA Conference will shape our projects as we work towards creating a more accessible, inclusive future.

A Sincere Thank You

We want to extend our sincere thanks to Jocelyn Martin, Craig Jennion, Debbie Johnson, Amanda Borg, and everyone else who helped make this experience so meaningful. Being a finalist in the HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards was an honour we will carry forward as we continue to strive for design excellence. We are proud to be members of the HIA and to be part of an industry dedicated to improving lives through innovative, inclusive construction.
